A
specialist vessel designed to service the waterway through the
Vistula Spit arrived in Poland from Finland on June 12. The
specialist vessel, which will join the fleet of the Maritime Office
in Gdynia, will also be used to maintain approach channels to
seaports to a depth of 18 meters.
The vessel was built by
the Finnish shipyard Tyovene Oy, which also cooperated with companies
from the Netherlands on this project. The contract also included the
delivery of a system of dredging pipelines. This equipment will be
delivered together with transport containers and an anchoring system
for the tip intended for connection to the dredger's unloading
system. The dredger was launched in September 2023.
The
Ministry of Infrastructure announced that thanks to the use of this
vessel for work related to servicing the waterway, in two years large
ships with a length of 100 meters and a draft of 4.5 meters will be
able to enter the port in Elbląg.
Ursa docked at the Port of Nowy
Świat. It is a suction hopper dredger, the primary task of which
will be to service the new, over twenty-kilometer waterway connecting
the Vistula Lagoon with the Bay of Gdańsk.
The contract for the construction
of the dredger was signed in March 2022. It assumed the design,
construction, equipment and delivery of the vessel to the ordering
party. The value of the contract was PLN 116.5 million.
