The Maritime Office in Szczecin has announced a tender for a navigation analysis for a new fairway to the port of Świnoujście.
The
announcement of the tender for the analysis marks the start of the
process on the construction of a new approach fairway to the port.
The contractor selected in the competition will be tasked with
determining the coordinates of the new track in terms of navigation
and navigation safety for ships with the maximum planned parameters.
A deepwater container terminal will be built in Świnoujście, so
ocean container ships up to 400 meters long and 60 meters wide will
eventually sail on the new track. The approach will have to be 17
meters deep and 500 meters wide.
The
new approach to Świnoujście is also to avoid waters disputed with
Germany. The government will allocate PLN 10 billion for the
construction. A long-term investment program for this project has
already been adopted, which also includes the construction of a
breakwater for the terminal and the purchase of a dredger for ongoing
maintenance of the track.
The
current fairway leading to Świnoujście does not meet the conditions
needed by the largest container ships - it is 220 meters wide and
14.5 meters deep.
