The results of the ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście after three quarters of 2024 are at a stable level year-on-year. The management also notes similar values in the scope of transshipments of general cargo, both ferries and the entire cargo sector. Unchanging results are also recorded in the case of the raw material strategic from the state's point of view, which is LNG.
A large increase was
recorded in timber transshipments. This cargo group has been
increasing its share in the port's results since the beginning of the
year. It led in the results of the second quarter of this year, when
it increased by over 60% year-on-year, and now it has recorded an
increase of 94.5%.
- Referring the current situation to the previous year is burdened with a certain error resulting from the extraordinary values of coal transshipments in 2022 and 2023, which was caused by the geopolitical situation and changes in supply chains, and this in turn resulted from the urgent need to replenish the shortages of this raw material - explains Jarosław Siergiej, president of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority, pointing out that there is a noticeable return to transshipment values similar to 2021.
This trend is to be visible, among others, in the average value of daily transshipments. As indicated in the information provided by the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority, at the same time the total number of transshipments performed after three quarters amounted to 23.9 million tonnes (cumulatively), which in relation to the previous year ended with a difference of -11.4%. Coal had a significant impact on the decreases, as in this cargo group a year-on-year decrease of over 60% was recorded. Lower results were also recorded in the transshipment of grain and fuels. At the same time, the port authorities indicate that the situation is currently normalizing and is already subject to typical market trends and supply and demand relations.
Net profit in the Szczecin-Świnoujście Ports was to increase by PLN 22.37 million (+25%), as previously reported by the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka. In terms of transshipment, the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority closed 2023 at a level almost analogous to 2022. Port operators handled a total of 36 million tons of cargo. The largest among them were grains and energy raw materials, including diesel oil and LNG.
