The Port of Gdańsk jumped to ninth place among ports in Europe in terms of transshipment. Among the ports in the European Union itself, Gdańsk ranks 7th.
Last year, a record 81
million tons were transhipped at the Port of Gdańsk. Thanks to this,
the largest Polish port took 9th place among all ports in Europe.
More goods were transhipped in Gdańsk than, among others, in
Barcelona, Primorsko, Marseille, Valencia and even Amsterdam.
Only eight ports recorded
higher transhipments in 2023 than Gdańsk. These were Haropa (Le
Havre, France; 81.3 million tons), Constanta (Romania; 92.5 million
tons), Algeciras (Spain; 92.5 million tons), Ust-Luga (Russia; 113.5
million tons), Novorossiysk (Russia; 161.4 million tons),
Antwerp-Bruges (Belgium; 269.7 million tons), Rotterdam (Netherlands;
438.8 million tons). Taking into account the European Union ports
alone, i.e. after excluding Novorossiysk and Ust-Luga, Gdańsk ranks
7th.
At the same time, the Port
of Gdańsk is the second largest port on the Baltic Sea after
Ust-Ługa.
Last year, three Polish
ports of strategic importance for the country's economy, i.e. Gdańsk,
Gdynia and Szczecin-Świnoujście, handled a total of 146.4 million
tons of cargo.
