The first Polish offshore wind farm installation terminal has received its final operating permit. The facility will be operational by mid-2025 and will serve as both an installation terminal and a conventional cargo port.
According to Orlen Neptun, this will be one of the most modern terminals in Europe, handling floating units adapted for installing the largest offshore wind turbines currently available on the market. It will support ambitious plans for utilizing renewable energy sources in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea and beyond.
With the final permit granted, the recruitment of the terminal's staff and its equipment installation has begun. Due to its location, it will also be capable of handling international projects, including in German, Swedish, and Danish waters.
The new quays will have technical parameters enabling the preliminary assembly of wind turbine towers more than 100 meters high, each weighing around 1,000 tons. The quays, each approximately 250 meters long, will allow operations with the largest available specialist jack-up vessels, designed for installing turbines of 14 MW and higher, as well as heavy lift vessels for transporting wind turbine foundations.
Initially, the terminal will be used for the installation of components for the Baltic Power offshore wind farm, being built by Orlen and Northland Power. Later, it will be utilized for additional projects. The terminal will also be capable of handling offshore transformer stations weighing up to 24,000 tons.
