Although the Szczecin-Świnoujście port complex recorded 8.5% less transshipment than a year ago, taking into account last year's massive coal import campaign, the result is perceived positively. Especially since in the second half of the year the ports broke the downward trend that had been ongoing since 2022.
The Szczecin and Świnoujście
Seaports Authority published a summary of 2024. The most important
information contained in it is the transshipment result of the ports
- over the 12 months, 32,305.8 million tons of cargo were
transshipped there. This is 8.5% less than in 2023, but it is worth
remembering that the result from that period was largely influenced
by the coal transshipment as part of a large-scale coal import
campaign. The Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority added
that in the second half of the year, the ports recorded a positive
result for the first time since 2022.
In all Polish ports, the
transshipment results from 2023 were an anomaly - they were inflated
by the transshipment of coal and a sudden increase in goods from
Ukraine. In 2024, the ports returned to normal operation, without
peaks caused by top-down import actions. Therefore, the Szczecin and
Świnoujście Seaports Authority sees the result of 32,305.8 million
tonnes positively, especially in the context of a clearly better
second half of the year.
As added in the announcement, in
2025 the ports have high hopes for the transshipment of fuels,
including LNG. In the first weeks of January, the first 5 gas
deliveries should be completed - 4 from the USA and one from Qatar.
The amount of ferry general cargo is also increasing; in 2024, for
the first time in several years, the Seaports and Seaports Authority
recorded an increase in ro-ro transport, which is the most important
cargo group in Świnoujście and Szczecin, reaching almost 50% of all
transshipments.
