Johan Sverdrup oil field is located in the North Sea, approximately 140 kilometers west of Stavanger. In the first stage it will be operated using four platforms, but there are plans to build a fifth platform. According to the project, the platforms will be connected by bridges. The distance from one to the last platforms is about 1.5 km.
According to preliminary estimates, the production capacity of the field is around 550-650 thousand. barrels per day, which corresponds to 40% of the total oil production on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
The process of connecting the field production facility, which started this summer, is the last and key phase before the production begins on the field at the end of 2019.
- The scope of works is very wide, because at the peak moment the project will employ about 650 people at sea on each of the three shifts, which means almost 2 thousand employees. This is the most complex development project in the history of Statoil as an operator on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) - said Kjetel Digre, Project Manager Johan Sverdrup.
