A
modern container depot will be created on a nearly six-hectare plot
located in the western part of the Port of Gdynia. The Port of Gdynia
Authority has just signed a 20-year lease agreement with Medlog Poland, part of the MSC group, one of the largest shipping companies
on the planet.
On the last day of July, a lease agreement
for land with an area of 59,787 meters between the Port of Gdynia and
Medlog Poland was officially signed at the headquarters of the Port
of Gdynia Authority. Under the agreement, Medlog will create a modern
container depot.
The agreement on behalf of the Port of Gdynia
Authority was signed by President Piotr Gorzeński and Vice President
Mirosław Czapiewski. Medlog Poland was represented by Board Member
Mikołaj Osiński. The agreement was signed for 20 years. The
Ministry of Infrastructure and the General Assembly of the Port of
Gdynia Authority both have given their consent.
– On this
site, Medlog plans to build a container depot, a container repair
facility and a modern, ecological container washing facility –
describes Piotr Gorzeński, President of the Port of Gdynia. –
Thanks to such a location, the range of services provided by the port
is being expanded. I will only add that Medlog is part of the MSC
group, currently the largest container shipowner in the world. The
fact that this agreement was signed confirms that the Port of Gdynia
remains a very important point on the map of global logistics
operators.
Medlog Poland entered the tender for the lease of
the plot in July last year. After a two-stage competition, which for
the first time in the history of the port was conducted in the form
of an electronic auction, it acquired the right to sign the agreement
with the PGA after completing the formalities. Medlog will thus
expand the scope of its operations in the Port of Gdynia – the
company has been present there since 2021, when it began cooperation
with the BCT container terminal in the field of servicing MSC
containers and more. Medlog Poland is the Polish branch of the
company, which is present in over 80 markets and boasts over 20
million TEU transshipped annually.
The new depot at
Logistyczna Street will be equipped with, among other things, social
and office facilities, as well as an automatic terminal gate, a
container renovation hall and a special washing station operating in
a closed water circuit. The whole is to meet high standards of
environmental protection.
