PGE and Orsted make investment decision for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm
Date of publication: 29.01.2025

olska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) and Danish Orsted have made the final investment decision for the construction of the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, PGE announced on Wednesday. Both companies have an equal share in the project.

Baltica 2 will have an installed capacity of 1498 MW. The first electricity from the farm is expected to be generated in the first half of 2027, with the entire farm scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2027.

As PGE reminded, the Baltica 2 project is being carried out in a joint venture with Orsted, where each partner holds an equal share. The total project budget, covering investment expenses during the development and construction phases, as well as operational costs during the construction phase, is estimated at approximately PLN 30 billion. The partners are equally responsible for securing this financing.

PGE announced that the company’s share of expenses will be financed from the National Reconstruction Plan through a loan provided by BGK, and via project finance, granted by a consortium of 25 Polish and international financial institutions, including BGK, EIB, and EBRD. The repayment of project finance will be based on future cash flows generated by the Baltica 2 project.

Baltica 2 will be located in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea, between Ustka and Choczewo. The farm will consist of 107 turbines, each with a capacity of 14 MW, spread across an area of approximately 190 km². The distance from the shore to the nearest turbine will be about 40 km. The turbines will be mounted on monopile foundations. Four offshore transformer stations will be built for the farm. The service base for the farm will be located in Ustka, and the power transmission to the shore will take place near Choczewo.

Next, PGE and Orsted plan to build the second phase of the Baltica wind farm – the Baltica 3 project with an expected capacity of around 1 GW.
