The Vistula Spit's re-passage was supposed to increase tourist traffic in the area. Meanwhile, work on the expansion of the passenger jetty at the Krynica Morska Sea Port has been underway for more than a year. Pomeranian construction giant NDI Group is responsible for carrying out the work. What will the port in Krynica Morska gain when the work is completed?
The
modernization of the marina, along with the expansion of the
passenger jetty, is being carried out by NDI Group at the request of
the Maritime Office in Gdynia. As explained last year by Capt.
Wojciech Żurawski of the Maritime Office in Gdynia Delegation in
Elbląg in the NDI Group's promotional material, the work can be
divided into two parts - the extension of the pier to the south and
the construction of a new part of the wharf reaching all the way to
Gdańska Street. The additional 50 meters will simultaneously result
in more berthing space for vessels, as well as less wave action in
the port.
"The
sheet pile walls have been plunged, vaulted and anchored. The ongoing
work, related to the construction of the caps, is nearing completion,
and in the next stage the equipment will be installed. The deadline
for completion of the construction works is mid-April,"
Magdalena Kierzkowska, spokeswoman for the Maritime Office in Gdynia,
told us.
Once
the work is completed, Krynica Morska will gain a total of more than
120 meters of quay, which will be used by larger tourist ships.
Already
completed is the extension of the passenger jetty, from 65 m to 100
m. The expansion of the entrance to the port from Gdanska Street is
currently underway. A 91-meter section of the North Basin shoreline
will also be strengthened.
In
addition, Krynica Morska will gain additional infrastructure - 22
parking spaces in a nearby parking lot and a new 200-meter pedestrian
and roadway near the port. City authorities expect that the
reconstruction will result in a significant increase in tourist and
sports sailing in the Krynica resort, including regattas and sailing
training.
