HES Gdynia Bulk Terminal has begun investment works at the Silesian Wharf in the Port of Gdynia, handing over the construction site to the contractors as of May 18. As part of the project, the company will build a storage area for grain with a capacity of about 65,000 tons, along with modern conveyor flyover technology, car loading and unloading bays, and wagon unloading in a particularly expected and effective bottom chute technology. Thanks to the expansion, the efficiency of the process of handling this type of cargo will increase, which will allow HES Gdynia to receive and handle more cargo in the years to come. The new investment is part of HES Gdynia's strategy to develop its operations in the port services market and increase the company's competitiveness, and is being carried out in cooperation with the Port of Gdynia Authority. Due to the advanced stage of investment works, the company assumes the end of construction in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Recent months have been a time of dynamic geopolitical changes related to the war in Ukraine, which exceptionally affected the supply chains of grain and energy resources. It was a challenging period for the maritime economy, during which seaports had to accept and handle a significantly higher volume of such cargoes compared to previous years. Last year ended with record results, and there is no doubt that further development of port infrastructure, especially for grain cargoes, is essential for the smooth operation of Polish maritime transport.
In this currently difficult situation in the grain export market, cooperation with the Port of Gdynia Authority is also very important for HES Gdynia Bulk Terminal. An additional square on the port's territory was recently handed over for use by the Port of Gdynia Authority (Zarząd Morskiego Portu Gdynia S.A.), which significantly improved the organization of road transport delivering grain to the port in Gdynia, and consequently the handling of grain at the terminals.
HES Gdynia is currently a leading terminal for importing feed and exporting grain, fully technologically adapted for handling dry and liquid bulk cargoes and handling Panamax-type vessels. The terminal is conveniently located at the main entrance to the Port of Gdynia, providing ship handling services 24/7 and handling cargoes on 4 berths with a maximum draft of 13 meters. With years of experience, the company has achieved a stable position in the port services market and a turnover of more than 6 million tons per year.
