Havfisk left Karstensen
Date of publication: 30.06.2024

A month after its launch, the Havfisk ship, built in the Karstensen Shipyard Poland in Gdańsk, left the shipyard quay and sailed to Denmark.

The 75-meter Havfisk was the hero of one of the launches open to the public at the Karstensen shipyard in Gdańsk. The vessel left the slipway a month ago. Since then, it has been moored at the shipyard quay, with the final finishing works underway. On June 24, Havfisk was towed from the shipyard quay and sailed – not yet under its own power, but under tow – to Denmark. Three tugboats participated in the operation of towing and turning the vessel, then one of them took the vessel to the open sea. Havfisk sailed to Skagen, Denmark, where Karstensens Skibsværft A/S is located. In this shipyard, the vessel will undergo the final preparations for handover to the customer.

The ordering party for the vessel is Havfisk AS, a subsidiary of Veibust Fisheriselskap based in Ålesund, Norway. Havfisk was ordered in March 2022, and received construction number 477 in Karstensen in Gdańsk. The final acceptance will take place by the end of this year.

Havfisk is a returning customer of Karstensen - the group's shipyards have previously built fishing vessels for this company, and have also modernized its older, operational vessels.

The new Havfisk was created based on a design created by Karstensens Skibsværft A/S. The total length of the vessel is 75.10 meters, the width is 16.20, and the displacement is 2900. The ship has a completely watertight cargo deck, as well as a trawl deck, raised by one level compared to the usual layout of this type of vessel. This has increased the freeboard, which is to contribute to a safer working environment on board. Havfisk has the DNV +1A Fishing Vessel E0 Ice-C class. This is due to the future area of operations in the form of difficult, frosty areas of the Norwegian Sea. The maximum speed of the vessel is 16 knots, and the crew is to consist of 15 people. The design work focused on optimizing the efficiency of the new vessel in relation to its operational profile in order to achieve minimum fuel consumption. Havfisk has been equipped with a heat recovery system from all engines, LED lighting and other measures aimed at minimizing energy consumption, in line with the idea of decarbonizing the maritime industry, including fishing. The main drive is a Wärtsilä 8V31 engine with an output of 5200 kW, while the ship has three auxiliary Scania DI16 engines with an output of 600 kW each. In addition, there are two Brunvoll thrusters with an output of 1400 kW. The vessel is to have a winch and cranes from Karmøy, two 1500 kW FrioNordica cooling units and a C-Flow ventilation system, consisting of two tanks and four 90 kW compressors. In addition, there are RSW tanks with a capacity of 2425 m3, intended for transporting caught fish, as well as 599 m3 for fuel and 75 m3 for fresh water.
