On
12 July this year, the Pomeranian Voivode issued a decision on
determining the location of the investment concerning the FSRU
Terminal (so-called location decision), which will be built in the
Bay of Gdańsk. The location decision includes a berthing and mooring
quay and a underwater gas pipeline, which will connect the Terminal
with the national gas transmission system.
- Obtaining a location decision is one of the most important milestones of the FSRU Program, the aim of which is to build the first floating regasification terminal in Poland. This year we plan to obtain another key administrative decision for the maritime component of the FSRU Program, i.e. a building permit - said Sławomir Hinc, President of the Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM.
The FSRU
Terminal will be located in the southern part of the Bay of Gdańsk,
in the immediate vicinity of the Baltic Hub container terminal and
the waterway leading to the port of Gdańsk, approx. 3 km from the
sea shore. A Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) will be
permanently moored to the quay, i.e. a ship adapted to process
storage of gas (LNG) received from methane tankers and changing its
state from liquid to gas. In this form, the gas will then be
transmitted, via an offshore gas pipeline, to the national
transmission network.
The investment is being carried out
using European Union funds. The European Commission, as part of the
Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), awarded the LNG Gdańsk project
funding for the action called: "Pre-investment works to obtain a
building permit for the offshore part of PCI 6.27 LNG Gdańsk (PL)".
The maximum amount of support granted is approx. EUR 19.6 million.
In 2023, the European Commission also included the onshore gas pipelines planned for implementation under the FSRU Programme in the loan part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO) in the REPowerEU chapter on the development of infrastructure necessary to meet immediate security of supply needs (component G3.2. - Improving energy infrastructure and facilities to meet immediate security of supply needs for gas).
