The Polish shipbuilding industry is becoming more and more prepared to participate in the offshore sector. Szczecin Shipyard "Wulkan" is making an important investment in this context.
Szczecin has a chance to become one of the most vital offshore wind centers. Szczecin Shipyard "Wulkan" is modernizing its infrastructure to implement offshore wind farm projects. Soon, it will gain an assembly site for large steel structures with direct access to the quay.
The modernization of one of the slipways in terms of use will provide the ability to assemble and transport large-size steel structures for both shipbuilding and the offshore wind energy sector, not only in the context of the construction of Polish wind farms but also in a broader context - on the dynamically developing European and American markets.
The investment is in progress and its effects can already be seen. The site will be ready in May, and the first launch of the large steel structure is planned for June. The yard will be designed for structures weighing up to 4,500 tons, and the current lifting capacity and the planned transport system will enable the assembly and reloading of objects with dimensions of 50 by 80 meters with the possibility of an increase in the future.
Certainly, the immediate vicinity of the Vestas factory, as well as Orlen's installation port in Świnoujście, will cause a significant increase in interest in the facilities that Szczecin Shipyard "Wulkan", currently specializing in steel structure construction, can boast of.
It is also worth noting the recent presence and interest in the shipyard's services by entrepreneurs from the Netherlands, who, outside the Tri-City, visited e.g. "Wulkan" Shipyard.
