Works on a new cable layer vessel started officially on January 19 this year at the Crist S.A. shipyard in Gdynia.
The order is being carried out for Ulstein, based on a contract concluded four months earlier with Nexans Marine Operations AS, the company that will operate the new ship. The main construction contractor is the Ulstein Verft shipyard.
The future ship received
construction number 317. The event was attended by representatives of
the Polish and Norwegian shipyards, as well as the ordering party.
The design of the ship is based on a similar one called Nexans
Aurora, which was delivered to the shipowner in 2021. The project was
carried out by Skipsteknisk. The vessel will also be partially
outfitted at the Crist shipyard.
The main act of the ceremony was
the launch of the cutter, which officially began the construction of
the vessel. This act was performed by Knut Flage, technical project
manager for shipbuilding at Nexans.
– We are happy to start
production and continue good cooperation with Nexans, Crist and
Skipsteknisk – said Runar Toftesund, project manager at Ulstein
Verft.
– We are very happy that we can
start work on the steel structure in Crist. Good design and
engineering cooperation in recent months between the designer, the
shipyard and the shipowner allows us to start production on time –
emphasized Frode Beyer, project manager at Nexans.
