CMA CGM container lines announced that from mid-May they are withdrawing from Gdynia and moving all services to Gdańsk. This means that the Containerships line belonging to CMA CGM will also not call at the container terminals in Gdynia.
CMA CGM announced its decision on
April 14, and it will come into force on May 15. From that day on,
all the line's vessels - primarily the Containerships feeders - will
enter only the Baltic Hub terminal in Gdańsk. So far, ships of this
line have called at both Gdynia container terminals. According to
general estimates, they accounted for approximately 200,000 teu in
BCT and GCT terminals in total. On the other hand, large ocean-going
CMA CGM ships called at Gdańsk.
Although the reasons for the
carrier's decision have not been given, there are plans to unify all
connections under one CMA CGM brand, which would involve closing the
Containerships brand. Logistical issues are also important, which are
difficult in the case of spreading the services of one carrier to
three different terminals located in the immediate vicinity of each
other.
