At what stage of investment is the deepwater terminal in Świnoujście?

This is one of the most important investments on the Polish coast. The deepwater container terminal in Świnoujście is to accommodate the largest container ships that can enter the Baltic Sea. Work on the construction of the terminal does not stop. What does it look like today?

July 10 this year On one of Szczecin's quays, the Szczecin-Świnoujście Seaports Authority signed a preliminary agreement for the construction of a deep-water container terminal in Świnoujście. The partners of the contract are the Belgian company Deme Concessions and the Qatari Qterminal. In order to start construction, a special purpose vehicle is to be established by the end of the year.

As Krzysztof Urbaś, president of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority, revealed on Radio Szczecin, work on the project is still ongoing. He said that cross-border proceedings with the German side are currently underway and should be completed within a few days. The agreement will allow for the issuance of an environmental decision, thanks to which it will be possible to submit an application for a location decision to the voivode. The President hopes that these formalities will be completed by the end of 2023.

In this way, work will begin on the construction of a deep-water container terminal, which, together with the LNG terminal and the universal terminal, will be part of the so-called terminal complex.

The container terminal is to be built east of the gas port. It will be located on a pier in the sea. It is to be protected from the sea by a breakwater. Container ships up to 400 meters long and several smaller ships will be able to call at the port at the same time. According to estimates, the terminal will handle approximately 1.5 million TEU annually.
