The proceedings regarding the location of the External Port in the Port of Gdynia have commenced

The Pomeranian Voivodeship Office announced on Friday, May 26th the initiation of an administrative procedure regarding the issuance of a decision on determining the location for the construction of the External Port in the Port of Gdynia.

"The Pomeranian Voivode notifies that, in accordance with Article 4(1) of the Act on Spatial Planning and Development, at the request of the Director of the Maritime Office in Gdynia (...), an administrative procedure has been initiated for the issuance of a decision on determining the location of the investment for the construction of an external port for the project entitled: Construction of the External Port in the Port of Gdynia, including the transportation road and rail system (...)," reads the announcement of the voivode from May 26, 2023.

"In connection with the above, I inform the parties to the procedure that they may submit applications, comments, or objections regarding the subject matter of the case, and before the decision is issued, they may express their opinion on the collected evidence and materials as well as the submitted requests. The aforementioned documents should be addressed to the Infrastructure Department of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Office in Gdańsk, 80-810 Gdańsk, Okopowa 21/27 Street, and the case files can be reviewed at the office premises, after scheduling an appointment by phone at +48 58 30-77-327," it stated.

"I also inform that in the event of the sale/transfer of ownership or perpetual usufruct rights to the properties covered by the aforementioned application, after the delivery of this notification, the seller and the buyer are obliged to notify the Pomeranian Voivode of the data of the new owner or perpetual usufructuary. Failure to make such notification and conducting the proceedings without the participation of the new owner or perpetual usufructuary does not constitute grounds for the resumption of the procedure," the announcement stated.

The External Port is planned to be developed as an investment carried out in the public-private partnership procedure. Its aim is, among others, to enable the handling of container ships over 400 meters in length and with a draft of up to 16 meters in the Port of Gdynia.

In 2022, a total of 28,2 million tons of cargo were handled in the Port of Gdynia, representing an increase of approximately 5,6% compared to 2021.
